We provide a lot of tooth extractions in Doral, which makes sense, since it’s one of the most common procedures people need. It’s also one that requires post-recovery care. Let’s discuss how to take care of your mouth after an extraction, as well as how long the recovery process takes.

What Shouldn’t I Do After Getting a Tooth Pulled?

In the first 24 hours after a tooth extraction, it’s important to treat the area gingerly. This helps prevent dry sockets, which are painful and may require further dental treatment.

You should avoid the following:

  • Sucking on a straw
  • Vigorous Spitting
  • Vigorous Rinsing

We also recommend against driving after you’ve gotten your teeth pulled. It’s easier and safer to have someone drive you to and from your dental extraction appointment.

How Long Does It Take to Recover from a Tooth Extraction?

In most cases, you should expect the site of your tooth extraction to heal within two weeks. Your dentist will let you know if the timeline differs for any reason.

Typically, you can expect dry sockets to heal on their own. If treated correctly, they will go away after a week.

If you’re having issues past this point, and your dentist didn’t provide you with a different timeline, you may need to schedule a new appointment.
